LOCAL CURRENCY
The local currency is Croatian kuna. Bank notes have seven denominations. The 10-kuna note is the smallest, followed by the 20-kuna note, the 50-kuna note, the 100-kuna note, the 200-kuna note, the 500-kuna note and the 1000-kuna note. The kuna has eight coin denominations: 5 kunas, 2 kunas and 1 kuna; 50 lipas, 20 lipas, 10 lipas, 5 lipas and 2 lipas. The major banks (Zagrebačka banka, Privredna banka, Erste banka etc.) usually have similar rates of exchange and do not charge a commission. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at bureaux de change located close to the Main Railway Station, the Main Bus Station, all around the main square (Trg bana J. Jelačića) and other places frequented by tourists. They also do not charge a commission. The official rate of exchange can be checked at the official site of

There are plenty of cash machines in the town.

DEBIT AND CREDIT CARDS
Credit cards can be used in most hotels, shops and restaurants. A sign on the door should tell which cards are accepted. American Express, VISA, MasterCard and Diners Club are most frequently used.

TRAMS
The public tram system in Zagreb is relatively well organized, and most areas in Zagreb can be reached by tram. Major tram stops have electronic displays.
Tickets can be bought at “Tisak” kiosks or from the tram driver
A single ticket (valid for one direction and for 90 min.) is 10,00 HRK (c. 1,3 EUR). A one-day ticket is 30,00 HRK (c. 4 EUR) and a three-day ticket is 70,00 HRK (c. 9,2 EUR). A single night ticket (valid for one direction and for 90 min) is 15,00 HRK (c. 2 EUR). Validating machines are at the front and back of each car.

There are three taxi companies in Zagreb. Using taxi services in downtown Zagreb is relatively inexpensive. Prices from and to the airport differ between the companies.
